The Academy’s Student Program is
a 10-month, professional dance program for youths from 3 to 18
years. It offers three areas of focus:
-
The primary focus is the
professional training of the ballet technique and its
artistry (pedagogy drawn from Royal Academy of Dance,
Cecchetti, Vaganova, and French training) from pre-ballet to
pre-professional. Instructors maintain technical standards
while caring for and managing individual physical needs.
Student promotion and progress is evaluated and assessed
through mandatory examinations in June.
-
The secondary focus is the
professional instruction in modern dance techniques such as
Graham, Limon and Horton as well as composition
(choreography classes) and modern/jazz dance fusion classes.
-
The third focus is the
professional instruction in other dance forms such as Tap,
Jazz, Flamenco and other ethnic dance styles.
The exposure to different styles
of dance are essential in broadening and refining a dancer’s
movement palate. Live piano accompaniment for ballet levels 2
and up. Students also receive conditioning and injury
prevention care via classes and exercise cards tailored to a
student’s needs.
BEYOND STUDENT PROGRAMS

stimulate gifted children.

This program was initiated to inculcate good warm-up habits
in her students and encourage greater physical awareness.
With the help of the CBTB Faculty, exercises with pictures
and explanations are distributed to the pre-teen and teen
student population. They are also given a card that
instructors sign to verify that the students have completed
their pre and post class SCIP exercises. A mid-year meeting
with SCIP students will be scheduled to follow-up, update
and ensure proper understanding of all the required
exercises and stretches.
