Boys Program scholarship audition to be held June 17 for students ages 8-10 years

Marla Hirokawa

The Boys' Program is an extension of the 10-month training program for children 8 years and older. Students new to the academy with no experience in ballet will be placed in the beginner level, while those who have some experience in ballet need to schedule a placement audition before enrolling in a training program course. Coursework includes boys' and men's classes, gender-specific conditioning, partnering and repertory (as appropriate for level). All students ages 8 and older are required to participate in end-of-year ballet assessments adjudicated by the Artistic Director and faculty in order to determine progress and advancement. Students are divided by level of experience.

The Boys Project scholarship is designed to promote male participation in dance. Through financial support, role modeling, and a gender specific curriculum, boys can enjoy the finest in American and European male-dance traditions. The program is available for male students ages, 8-18, through recommendation, application and audition.
